Digibug talks web design at Open4Business in Weymouth

Paul Weeks - Stephanie Pettitt - Andrew Knowles

Dorset business owners gathered at the new Weymouth Fire Station this week to hear our very own Paul Weeks talk about how business can make better use of the internet.

He addressed important issues which are so often overlooked in the rush to get a website online, such as user-friendly navigation and creating a mobile version.

More and more consumers are accessing the internet through mobile devices, such as Smartphones and tablet computers. As a result, some firms could be losing business because their websites are not designed to load quickly, or are not easy to use, on a mobile device.

He also discussed the importance of search engine optimisation (SEO), explaining the difference between achieving a presence on the search engines through per click advertising and organic listings.

Paul shared the floor with Andrew Knowles, a freelance writer for business, who spoke about social media, and Stephanie Pettitt of Equation Accounting, who shared her experiences of using cloud computing.

The presentations provoked considerable discussion among the business owners present, all of whom seemed keen to further exploit the potential of online marketing to boost trade. Many were also interested in the productivity benefits that could come from cloud computing.
