Digibug raises new Sandsfoot Castle website from the ruins
As part of a major renovation project, the Friends of Rodwell Trail and Sandsfoot Castle, in Weymouth, decided they needed a new website to promote these important local landmarks. So they came to us at Digibug for help with graphic design and website building.
Sandsfoot Castle, built by Henry VIII but abandoned long ago, was, until recently, badly in need of some TLC. Years of neglect and exposure to the elements were taking their toll on Weymouth’s only scheduled ancient monument.
Fortunately, a £194k grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, in partnership with the Friends of Rodwell Trail and Sandsfoot Castle, to renovate the ruins. A new walkway has been added, to make the castle, which overlooks Portland Harbour, more accessible to the public.
While the renovation work was going on, the Friends chose to refurbish their online presence. A bit like the castle, their existing website was crumbling at the edges and looking somewhat sorry for itself.
The Friends had some clear ideas for their new website. They wanted an easy-to-use content management system (CMS), so they could add news and content themselves. They were also keen to have up-to-date, attractive photographs and the ability to schedule events.
Digibug designed and constructed the new website using the popular Wordpress system, having decided that this was the right choice to meet the needs of the Friends.
Today, both the new website and the renovated Sandsfoot Castle are attractive places to visit.
